2017 July Saint Sinclair

It is hard to believe that July 4th is already upon us. The birth of our country is certainly an epic and most courageous event, where colonialists united together under God to forge a new path in creating a country of their own. The inspiration and persecution of the colonials drove them and their families across the 13 colonies to their knees independence on following and obeying God’s direction for their future.

It reminds me of the scripture verse in 2 Chronicles 7:14 – The Lord appeared to Solomon at night and said to him,"14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

There are a couple of unique features in this verse relating to national forgiveness of Israel’s sins: 1) Humility, 2) Repentance, 3) Longing for God, and 4) Prayer. As we delight in celebrating the 4th with family and friends ensure we thank the Lord for the freedoms that we have in our country. Let us remember that true freedom is not doing what we want, but instead it is being free from sin to worship the true living God. My prayer is that we as a nation, formed of families and individuals, can humble ourselves, repent of our sins, and walk faithfully and obediently with God.

Praying for you, Murray
