Abraham received the promise of land, the promise of a great nation of descendants and the promise of those descendants blessing the world (Genesis 12:1-7). The catch...Abraham was promised these three things but he never saw them come to pass. None of the patriarchs saw the fulfillment of God's promises, but not one of them doubted that these promises would come true. Why? Because they believed God keeps his promises! That's called faith. "Faith has its great work to do at the very last, to help believers to finish well, to die for the Lord..." (Matthew Henry Commentary).
